New Jersey requires HIC registration for most residential painting.

EPA Lead Renovator (RRP) Certification — Required for any renovation, repair, or painting work that disturbs paint in pre-1978 housing and child-occupied facilities.
General Liability Insurance — Commercial customers almost always require a current COI before awarding work.
Commercial Auto Insurance — Personal auto policies exclude work use — commercial customers and many states require it.
